Assembly & Flightline Actions 1 (Sample, level 1)

The Workplace Actions Topics cover the verbs used to describe common actions in Assembly and Maintenance. There is one in each lesson, going from basic to more technical or less common.  If you would like to review some common ‘everyday’ English verbs, look in the ‘Extras’ lesson at the end of Module 2.

How to do this lesson:
(1) Read the sentences with the key words ( put your cursor over the key words to see their meanings)
(2) look at the vocabulary notes,
(3) listen to how they are spoken,
(4) check the translation if needed,
(5) then do the quizzes.

Here are the Sentences and the Key Words

  1. Put warning notices in position.
  2. Open the access door.
  3. Set the master switch to OFF.
  4. Remove the faulty unit.
  5. Install a new unit.
  6. Make sure the blue light comes on.
  7. Check the electrical wiring continuity.
  8. Finally, close the access door.

 

Vocabulary Notes

  • A Warning notice tells people to be careful to avoid injury. In technical manuals, a ‘Caution‘ is a warning to avoid mistakes.
  • To set is usually used for a selector with several positions
  • To remove means take away, so it is no longer there. To replace is to put in another one.
  • A light comes on, stays on and goes off.
  • Note that to Control is not the same as to Check. It means to affect the behaviour of something (e.g. flight controls).
  • To close means to shut, or to prevent access. It is the opposite of open. The adjectives are Open and closed .
