The Workplace Actions Topics cover the verbs used to describle common actions in aircraft assembly and maintenance. 

Here are some more common actions. To improve your listening, listen first without reading. Then read the sentences, look at the vocabulary notes,  check the translation if needed, and finally  do the Quiz.

Sentences and Key Words

  1. Countersink the screw to make it flush.
  2. The electrical wire is crimped to the connector.
  3. Debur the hole to smooth the edges.
  4. Fix the sign to the sidewall.
  5. Solder the two wires together.
  6. The two wires need to be spliced
  7. You can weld the two pieces of metal together.
  8. Be careful not to bend the metal strip.

Vocabulary Notes

  1. to countersink means to make a fastener (screws, rivets etc) flush or level with the surrounding area. The adjective is countersunk.
  2. to crimp is to join by pressing together, often between a wire and a connector or terminal
  3. to debur(r) is to remove imperfections and sharp edges, often after drilling, and make the surface smooth.
  4. to fix means to attach, as well as to repair or to put right
  5. to solder means to join metals together using a soft metal which melts at a low temperature, also called solder.
  6. to splice is a way of joining two wires together
  7. to weld is to join metals by melting them
  8. to bend is used when something is not straight, or bent.
